Educators at Jacobson Middle School purportedly “value” student language and culture, yet they do next to nothing to promote a culturally reaffirming environment. This can only compound the behavioral and academic difficulties of Latino youth. Few things are more damaging to Latino bicultural identity than a restriction on the academic development of his or her home language.
